Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), a leading provider of cutting-edge semiconductor solutions, declared today that the automotive Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) it uses to create microcontrollers and system on chips (SoCs) has been defined and put into practice in accordance with International Standard ISO/SAE 21434:2021. TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH has granted the following certification to the CSMS framework, which is applicable to Renesas’ design facility in Musashi, Japan.

The certification reaffirms Renesas’ dedication to its clients and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), demonstrating that Renesas will continue to fulfil its CSMS obligations and support the automotive industry in obtaining vehicle type approval in accordance with the most recent UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) UNR155 regulation. As stated in a previous press release, beginning on January 1, 2022, this certified ISO/SAE 21434:2021 CSMS development method will be used for all Renesas automotive MCUs and SoCs. Along with its well-known R-Car SoC Family, this also comprises the company’s 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs.

“With this certification, validated by an independent third party, customers can have confidence that our management of the CSMS process is meeting the requirements defined by ISO/SAE 21434:2021,” said Takashi Yasumasu, Vice President of the HPC Core Technology Division at Renesas. “OEMs and Tier1 suppliers can simplify their vehicle type approval process by utilizing this independent third-party certification, instead of conducting their own audits of our process.”

The ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard has received major international contributions from Renesas. Beyond the automotive sector, Renesas is devoted to cybersecurity. Renesas received TÜV Rheinland certification in 2019 it complies with the IEC 62443-4-1 standard, which outlines the procedural standards for the secure development of industrial goods.

Renesas keeps creating risk-free and secure products for its clients. Following a lengthy history of ISO 26262 compliance on automotive MCUs and SoCs, ISO/SAE21434:2021 certification is the most recent accomplishment for Renesas. Customers can use Renesas MCUs and SoCs for next-generation automotive systems with confidence knowing that they will be in compliance with global norms for product cybersecurity and functional safety.
