CINCINNATI, OHIO, USA — June 2025 – Emery Oleochemicals has reached a major sustainability milestone by achieving ISO 50001: Energy Management Systems certification at its Cincinnati manufacturing facility. This certification, officially awarded in December 2024 after a comprehensive third-party audit, demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
In recognition of this achievement, the Ohio Chemistry Technology Council (OCTC) honored Emery with its Award for Excellence in Environmental Performance during the 36th Annual Conference in May 2025.
Already holding ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications for over 20 years, Emery’s Cincinnati site continues to raise the bar in operational excellence and sustainability.
Energy Management That Delivers Real Results
In 2024, Emery Oleochemicals launched a company-wide Energy Management System (EnMS) to further reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. Key initiatives included:
Steam trap testing and repair
Steam boiler tuning for better efficiency
Ozonator performance optimization
Hands-on employee training to eliminate energy waste
Thanks to these efforts, the company reports a 25% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, equivalent to 16 tons annually, primarily driven by improvements in boiler performance.
Emery’s dedicated Energy Committee continues to build on this progress, actively exploring new energy-saving strategies and setting ambitious goals for 2025 and beyond.
